AI guru Sam Altman expressed confidence on Sunday in the Trump administration's ability to support the growth of the industry, while emphasizing the need for Congress to legislate regulations for this new technology. In an interview on conservative network Fox News, Altman, known worldwide after the release of ChatGPT in 2022, stated that to compete with countries like China in artificial intelligence, "the infrastructure in the United States is extremely important."
Altman explained that AI "requires enormous amounts of infrastructure, energy, chips, and data centers, and we need to build that here. We must be able to have the best AI infrastructure in the world to be leaders in technology and capabilities."
He was also asked about the necessity for American Congress to legislate safeguards and restrictions. When asked, "Do you think Congress should legislate?", he replied, "I think yes, at some point. When and in what form, I don’t know." He added, "For any technology of this magnitude, I expect legislation to be adopted at some point."
