China and Russia are set to collaborate once again, this time focusing on artificial intelligence projects. The United States currently leads in AI development, with China being the only other country that remains competitive. Given the intense Western sanctions, Russia sees China as its only viable partner in advancing AI technology, a sentiment recently echoed by President Vladimir Putin.
According to Reuters, Putin has instructed the government to forge partnerships with China in the field of artificial intelligence, which will also involve the country's largest bank, Sberbank. The Kremlin leader aims to ensure ongoing cooperation with the People's Republic of China in technological research and development related to AI.
Russia faces significant challenges in accessing top GPUs, which are crucial for building AI infrastructure. Since the onset of the Ukraine war, Russia has experienced sanctions across various sectors, including high technology. This announcement follows Putin's earlier communication about collaborating with BRICS countries to develop AI technologies, with the hope that by 2030, AI could contribute about 11.2 trillion rubles (approximately $100 billion) to the national GDP.
