ChatGPT: What will the new €200 monthly subscription be for?

To access the best possible artificial intelligence, significant investments are required. OpenAI has unveiled the first surprise in a series of announcements expected by Christmas, launching the final version of o1, its most advanced language model, which has been online since the end of September.

To utilize this reasoning-capable AI, OpenAI is also introducing a new subscription that allows unrestricted access to its technological advances: ChatGPT Pro. While o1 (and its smaller counterpart, o1 mini, which can perform "quick reasoning") can be used with a basic ChatGPT Plus subscription for €20 per month, a "pro mode" version of o1 will be available for... €200 per month.

This steep price may deter many prospective AI enthusiasts, but OpenAI justifies it with performance results. In a math competition scoring out of 100, o1 scores 78.3, while o1 pro mode achieves 85.8. On a scientific questionnaire requiring expertise (a PhD level), o1 scores 75.6 compared to 79.3 for o1 pro mode. Nonetheless, OpenAI notes that most users may not find o1 pro mode necessary, as o1 already demonstrates substantial power.
