Xiaomi is shaking up the Chinese automotive market with its electric sedan, the SU7. Within nine months, the manufacturer delivered 130,000 units, surpassing its initial goal. This marks a historic achievement for a newcomer in the automotive industry.
The Chinese electronics giant has accelerated its efforts, launching its first car, the electric sedan SU7, in March 2024 at a price of ~$30,000. Within minutes of its release, 50,000 orders were placed. This surge in demand forced Xiaomi to ramp up production to 20,000 units per month, demonstrating a remarkable entry into the highly competitive Chinese market.
Given this success, Xiaomi plans to expand its automotive range with two new models in 2025, including the SU7 Ultra and the crossover YU7. This diversification aims to attract European customers while circumventing taxes on Chinese electric vehicles. Although no official announcement confirms this international ambition, the brand's domestic success suggests an imminent European expansion.
