Apple introduced the Vision Pro last June, aiming to persuade the public of the necessity for a virtual reality headset. While the technological execution was successful, the Vision Pro turned out to be a commercial failure, selling only a few hundred thousand units, far below Apple's expectations.
In response to these low sales, production was reportedly cut in half in November. The Chinese company Luxshare, responsible for assembling the Vision Pro, reduced its output to 1,000 headsets per day, down from the initial 2,000 to 2,500 planned for the launch in February. Currently, production is said to have completely halted according to analyst Wayne Ma. Apple reportedly has between 500,000 and 600,000 headsets in stock, sufficient to meet the low demand throughout 2025.
For 2026, a new version of the Vision Pro is expected to be released, extending this product line despite the recent troubles of the first generation. According to Apple specialist Mark Gurman, the Vision Pro 2.0 will feature cheaper components, significantly lowering the final retail price. Apple is also addressing concerns about the device's weight and battery life, two common criticisms of the first generation. This new headset is anticipated to debut in the latter half of 2026, potentially at WWDC or during the traditional iPhone launch event.
