As China may see its sales of electrified cars surpass those of thermal models this year, a European country continues to break records in the electric car market. Norway has long been the most favorable country for electric vehicles, and in 2024, it set a new record, getting closer to its goal of 100% by 2025.
Although the Norwegian Road Federation states that "the goal has not been reached," no other country comes close to Norway's high proportion of electric cars. In 2024, Norway sold a total of 128,691 vehicles, including 114,409 electric vehicles, achieving an astonishing market share of 88.9%.
Norway has always been a reference in electric vehicles, with 96.4% of registrations in September represented by electric cars. The Norwegian Automobile Manufacturers Association expects a market share of 100% by 2025. The government offers benefits like VAT exemption for electric cars, while thermal vehicles will incur a new tax starting in April.
