Elon Musk was correct, and it took until 2025 to reveal the new Tesla Model Y, its refreshed version named Juniper. The manufacturer has finally shared more about this redesign, which is initially set to launch in China, with expectations for its arrival in Europe in the coming months. Details released in China provide insights into the updates and changes made to this new version, as the electric SUV enters a new era five years after its initial launch.
The Model Y features a subtle redesign of its exterior, retaining its signature lines while eliminating the protruding nose. This facelift utilizes fewer body parts, which should help reduce road noise. The front now includes a notable light strip reminiscent of another flagship model, the Cybertruck. At the rear, Juniper sports a “diffuse reflection light” instead of traditional tail lights, with promises of improved aerodynamics leading to a 5% increase in range.
While the color range remains consistent with signature hues such as White, Gray, Blue, and Red, a new Dark Gray replaces the previous Matte Black for Chinese customers. The interior sees significant upgrades, including an ambient light bar similar to the new Model 3, enhanced materials for passenger comfort, and a seat ventilation system. An 8-inch rear touchscreen has been added for entertainment and climate control, while the main console has a larger display area with slimmer borders.
