The California start-up Aptera Motors has unveiled its three-wheeled electric vehicle equipped with solar panels at CES 2025. This model promises a daily range of up to 60 kilometers thanks to solar energy and a total range that can reach 1,600 kilometers. The company has already received 50,000 preorders and raised $135 million.
After two bankruptcies and several prototypes, Aptera showcased a nearly final version of the vehicle at CES in Las Vegas 2025. This solar electric car features a futuristic design and innovative construction, aided by its collaboration with the Pininfarina body shop, resulting in exceptional energy efficiency. The starting price is set at $28,000 based on a basic configuration available on their website. This pricing makes it relatively accessible despite its advanced technologies.
The Aptera excels in technical performance with a carbon fiber chassis that allows it to weigh 816 kg with 60 kWh batteries. The model presented in Las Vegas includes a lighter 45 kWh pack. Its aerodynamic design, developed with Pininfarina, achieves a drag coefficient of 0.13, nearly half that of a Tesla Model 3 (0.23). Integrated solar panels generate up to 700 watts of electricity, providing 60 kilometers of daily range from parking in the sun, equivalent to around 10,000 kilometers annually without electric recharging in sunny regions.
