Revel, an electric vehicle charging infrastructure startup based in Brooklyn, launched its first fast-charging station in San Francisco on Monday, marking the beginning of its expansion plans across the Bay Area within the next year. “For years, Revel has operated the largest, fastest, and most reliable fast-charging network in New York City,” stated co-founder and CEO Frank Reig. “Now we’re bringing our model to the number one EV market in North America.”
The Bay Area boasts high rates of EV ownership, with over 35% of new vehicle sales in San Francisco being electric in 2024, far exceeding the national average of around 8%. Revel’s first West Coast charging station, located in the Mission District, features 12 chargers with a capacity of 320 kW, built by Kempower, and will be publicly accessible 24/7 for all EV makes and models.
Mayor Daniel Lurie of San Francisco, who inaugurated the station, emphasized that the new chargers will facilitate the transition to electric vehicles for residents. Revel plans to add over 125 chargers in urban centers including San Francisco, Oakland, San Jose, and South San Francisco in the upcoming year. Last month, Revel secured a $60 million loan to significantly increase its fast-charging network in New York City.
