Soon, you will be able to unlock your door just like you unlock your iPhone. Journalist Mark Gurman from the American media outlet Bloomberg reveals that tech giant Apple is working on its own smart doorbell that will allow entry using Face ID, the facial recognition system used by iPhones.
Specifically, Apple’s doorbell will use technology to identify the face of the person wishing to enter. Once recognized, the doorbell will send a signal to the door lock to unlock it. It may even be possible to connect the doorbell with other smart home devices through HomeKit.
The connected device has not been officially announced by Apple, and its release is expected no earlier than the end of 2025, according to Bloomberg. In the meantime, customers can rely on smart locks from Nuki, which allow unlocking via iPhone or Apple Watch (but without Face ID). Apple aims to catch up in the smart home market against competitors like Google (with the Google Nest doorbell) and Amazon (with the Amazon Ring doorbell).
