Star Wars fans are sure to be thrilled. At GTC 2025, NVIDIA introduced Blue, a small robot that looks like it came straight from the franchise's universe. It is designed in partnership with Disney and Google.
This year's annual NVIDIA conference emphasizes artificial intelligence (AI), with robotics also taking the spotlight, exemplified by Gr00t, a model capable of transforming humanoids into versatile workers. The chip manufacturer also showcased Newton, a motor that allows robots to learn complex tasks with greater precision.
Developed through close collaboration between NVIDIA, Disney, and Google DeepMind, this motor simulates robot behavior in realistic environments using advanced physical laws (mass, forces, friction, etc.). Available as open source, it requires NVIDIA processors for fast simulations and helps bridge the gap between simulation and reality, a major challenge in robotics. Disney Research is one of the first companies to utilize this device, showcasing it with a robot directly inspired by Star Wars. During his keynote, Jensen Huang introduced Blue, a BDX robot that will appear in the upcoming film The Mandalorian and Grogu currently in production.
