Near Cannes, the municipal police of Mandelieu-la-Napoule will now be using Tesla vehicles due to the "lack of response from French manufacturers." This was confirmed by Sébastien Leroy, the mayor of Mandelieu-la-Napoule, on the social media platform X.com. The town, with a population of 20,000, now boasts a fleet of four electric vehicles dedicated to the municipal police, specifically Tesla Model 3 cars.
"Mandelieu is the first municipal police force in France equipped with Tesla," the mayor stated on his X.com account. This marks a significant milestone, as four Tesla Model 3 vehicles adorned with police colors will be patrolling the city silently. According to Leroy, this new electric fleet will allow for 85% savings in energy and maintenance while providing officers with vehicles optimized for urban use.
Despite the advantages, there are questions about choosing American vehicles (manufactured in China) over electric cars "made in France." The reason is straightforward: "French manufacturers did not respond to our call for tenders," said Sébastien Leroy, highlighting the disappointment in the local government's search for domestic options. While Peugeot already supplies vehicles to the French police, none of the French manufacturers found it necessary to respond to Mandelieu’s offer.
