Connecting to Wi-Fi on a train can often be a frustrating experience, primarily because it usually relies on mobile operators' 4G networks. The combination of varying speeds and dead zones without nearby antennas can make for an uncomfortable and interrupted connection.
But what if the solution came from the sky? After airplanes, Starlink will be making its debut in trains with ScotRail in Scotland. This is set to "change the game" for rail communications, according to Elon Musk's company.
Passengers traveling to Inverness, Thurso, and Wick will have access to high-speed Wi-Fi, which will address the "long-standing communication issues in the Scottish Highlands," ScotRail rejoiced, while Musk expressed a simple "Cool" on X, his social media platform. It’s worth noting that Starlink operates the world's first and largest constellation of satellites in low Earth orbit, providing high-speed, low-latency internet capable of supporting streaming, online gaming, video calls, and much more.
