HDMI 2.2 is coming: Expect to change your cables!

The HDMI 2.2 standard is expected to be officially announced at CES 2025, following a teaser in a press invitation. Nearly eight years after the introduction of HDMI 2.1, this new standard promises significant advancements, though it will require changing your cables!

HDMI is a staple in many everyday products, from gaming consoles to televisions and soundbars, as well as monitors and laptops. The upcoming HDMI 2.2 standard is anticipated to be a significant upgrade for both the audiovisual industry and the gaming sector.

According to an email from the HDMI Forum sent to specialized media, the new HDMI specification will feature higher bandwidth, allowing for a variety of higher resolutions and refresh rates, necessitating new HDMI cables. While no HDMI 2.2-compatible hardware has been announced yet, it is expected that the first products will be revealed at CES, with whispers of NVIDIA and AMD's upcoming announcements regarding the RTX 5000 graphics cards being compatible with HDMI 2.2.
