Elon Musk wants to colonize Mars, but is it serious?

For over two decades, Elon Musk has claimed he wants to make humanity a "multi-planetary species." With SpaceX, he has focused on the ambitious goal of sending humans to Mars. However, according to revelations from the New York Times, it is no longer just about landing: he now dreams of an entire colony.

SpaceX teams are already working on details such as domes to shelter inhabitants, space suits to survive the harsh climate, and even the possibility of having babies on Mars. The billionaire, a supporter of Donald Trump, has even proposed to contribute personally by making his genetic material available to "populate" the red planet an idea that borders on dystopian science fiction.

Despite these seemingly concrete plans, skeptics abound. How can one establish a civilization on a planet with an average temperature of -60°C, unbreathable air, and dust storms that can last for weeks? Currently, even setting foot on Mars remains out of reach, with NASA not planning a manned mission before the 2040s. Yet, Musk insists on accelerating timelines, claiming that a million people could live there within two decades.
