Elon Musk has grand ambitions for SpaceX's Starbase, which plays a critical role in the design, construction, and launch of Starship rockets. He aims to establish this facility, founded in 2019, as a new city recognized by the State of Texas.
Located in Boca Chica, near the Mexican border, the Starbase is currently home to over 3,000 employees and includes the newly constructed Starfactory. SpaceX has requested that Cameron County hold an election to incorporate Starbase as a city, stating that this would facilitate the development necessary for expanding the workforce to accelerate Starship production.
Musk has confidently declared that SpaceX's headquarters is now officially in the city of Starbase, Texas. He has also made optimistic plans for Starship missions, including a Mars mission by 2026 and lunar landings as part of NASA's Artemis program.
