If you've ever been at a party with me, you know I love to impress people with my breakdancing moves on the dance floor. Today, I sadly announce my retirement from dancing because the competition is too fierce! Indeed, Atlas, the humanoid robot from Boston Dynamics, has just released a video auditioning for the next Dancing with the Stars in 2026, which completely diminishes my chances.
As shown in the video, Atlas can perform various complex movements. It starts with a simple walk, then transitions to a fluid run, leaning forward like a human athlete. Following that, it moves on all fours, executes a shoulder roll, and nails a handstand along with breakdancing moves that would make any street dancer envious. To top it off, a lateral somersault that seems to defy the laws of physics!
The good news is that Boston Dynamics has partnered with Nvidia to use Isaac Lab as a virtual learning environment for robots, utilizing advanced multimodal AI models. This collaboration allows Atlas to leverage the power of the NVIDIA Jetson Thor computing platform, designed for advanced robotic applications. It enables Atlas to execute complex AI models that work seamlessly with Boston Dynamics' controllers, pushing the boundaries of robotics closer to reality.
