Vibrant Visuals: After a major setback in 2017, Mojang attempts to beautify Minecraft again

Mojang has announced a significant graphical overhaul for Minecraft called Vibrant Visuals, which aims to modernize the blocky game. Six years after the cancellation of the Super Duper Graphics Pack, the studio returns with a more measured yet ambitious approach.

During the recent Minecraft Live event, the studio revealed this visual redesign that will introduce directional lighting, volumetric fog, and “thousands of individually created elements” to enhance the gaming experience. The visual improvements are set to be significant without altering Minecraft's characteristic aesthetic.

Vibrant Visuals will first be available on Minecraft: Bedrock Edition and later on the Java version, focusing on platforms like PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and certain iOS and Android devices. The update will not impact game mechanics, ensuring that existing light systems will function exactly as before.
