Code-named "Project K", the League of Legends universe expands once again as Riot Games has announced the development of a physical collectible card game. The announcement was made on Friday, December 6, as reported by The Verge.
Details about the game are still scarce, but Riot stated that it features a "unique gameplay" that is best enjoyed with friends and in person. The game will include classic duel battles as well as team combat. Some images released show black and gold cards depicting iconic champions such as Viktor and Jinx, along with notable locations from League of Legends.
The game is set to launch in China in early 2025 with an unnamed partner. Previews of the decks will be showcased in December. For a global release, Riot is taking its "time to find the right publishing partners." With Project K, Riot enters a less-explored area of physical gaming, diversifying its offerings while remaining within its franchise universe, alongside previous titles like the online card game Legends of Runeterra and the competitive shooter Valorant. However, not all ventures have succeeded, leading to the announcement of layoffs affecting 530 employees in January, primarily in the independent projects division.
