Why 2025 is set to be a "critical" year for google

Google is gearing up for 2025, a year described as "critical" by Sundar Pichai. These comments were made during a strategy meeting for 2025 on December 18, as reported by the U.S. site CNBC, which obtained a recording. During the meeting, he discussed the upcoming advancements in artificial intelligence.

The company is heavily investing to compete with rivals like OpenAI and its ChatGPT, with a significant focus on its chatbot Gemini. This month, Google unveiled a new version of Gemini, which it claims is its "most advanced generative AI model to date."

As ChatGPT surpassed 300 million weekly users in early December, Gemini will be Google's "main objective" in 2025. The application is expected to become the company's 16th app to reach half a billion users, following Google Maps, its search engine, and YouTube. Pichai acknowledged that Google needed to catch up in the AI field, noting that Gemini was launched in December 2023, a year after ChatGPT, emphasizing that being first isn't always necessary, but striving to be the best is crucial for 2025.
