Dating apps are becoming less popular, and while some seek to stand out, it hasn't been enough to keep users engaged. According to the Guardian, users are less inclined to write messages, swipe to validate profiles, or even create their own.
To revitalize the platform, Match Group, which owns Meetic, Hinge, OKCupid, and Tinder, plans to significantly increase its investments in artificial intelligence. New features are expected as early as March 2025, including an AI assistant that can handle "basic dating tasks." This assistant will be able to choose profile photos, write descriptions, and select profiles for users to chat with.
To better understand users, the AI will ask questions to determine their desired dating experience. The more answers provided, the better the experience, says Match Group. Even if users are not chatty, the AI will suggest messages based on shared interests. However, experts warn that AI's influence on conversation could hinder genuine connections, and concerns about data privacy and potential biases in AI systems have been raised.
