The short video app has faced criticism for its negative impact on younger users. In response, TikTok is introducing features aimed at limiting teen usage.
As TikTok faces potential bans in the U.S., the app is implementing new features in the European Union to help parents better regulate their children's activity. To address the concerns about TikTok's effects on youth, the app is launching a "Meditation" feature that will automatically stop usage at 10 PM for users under 16. This will replace the usual screen with calming music and relaxation suggestions, although parents can disable this option.
Additionally, TikTok is enhancing parental controls with a "family connection" mode, allowing parents to set usage limits and view their children's follower lists. This move aims to alleviate the growing criticism faced by the platform.
