The iPhone 17 Air could have been Apple's first smartphone without any charging ports

With the iPhone 17 Air, Apple aims to usher in a new era in its iPhone lineup. There was even consideration of launching it without any ports at all. This decision has sparked significant debate. While many Apple users are accustomed to using cloud services or MagSafe for charging, the company ultimately decided to include a USB-C port due to concerns from European regulators.

Mark Gurman shared insights in his PowerOn newsletter, indicating that Apple's shift towards a completely portless design may still be on the horizon in the coming years. This design change could influence the industry significantly. Furthermore, iOS 19 is expected to bring major design changes as the iPhone 17 Air begins a new cycle for Apple.

Apple is also looking to redesign its Pro models by 2026 or 2027, potentially relocating some components of the Dynamic Island under the screen. However, the success of the iPhone 17 Air is not guaranteed, especially given the mixed results of previous models like the mini and Plus.
