Pavel Durov, the CEO of Telegram, is navigating a new phase in his ongoing legal troubles, having recently answered questions from an investigating judge. His legal issues began on August 25, when he was arrested by French authorities upon exiting his jet at Bourget Airport. Following over 80 hours in police custody, he was released with restrictions, including a ban on leaving France as the investigation proceeds.
After a lengthy wait, Durov finally had his first interrogation with a judge on December 6. He faces multiple charges and is required to pay a €5 million bail and report to the police twice weekly. The accusations involve complicity related to various incidents occurring on his messaging app over the years.
Despite having adjusted his stance on Telegram's moderation and increased cooperation with judicial authorities since his arrest, Durov maintains his innocence and challenges the validity of the charges against him. He asserts that Telegram has always complied with the law and believes that any potential lawsuit should target the company rather than him personally.
