OpenAI is nearing the conclusion of a substantial $40 billion funding round, spearheaded by SoftBank, as reported by Bloomberg. This funding round involves discussions with various funds, including Magnetar Capital, Coatue Management, Founders Fund, and Altimeter Capital Management, with Magnetar potentially contributing $1 billion.
SoftBank is set to make an initial investment of $7.5 billion, alongside an additional $2.5 billion from an investor syndicate. A second phase of this funding is anticipated later this year, which will see SoftBank invest another $22.5 billion, with a further $7.5 billion from syndication.
Previously, OpenAI raised $6.6 billion led by Thrive Capital in October 2024, achieving a valuation of $157 billion. According to Bloomberg, this new funding round could elevate OpenAI's valuation to an impressive $300 billion.
