One year before support ends, Windows 10 remains the favorite among PC users

Windows 10 still holds a significant market share, far exceeding that of Windows 11, which raises concerns as support for Windows 10 is set to end in a few months. Despite being available for over three years, Windows 11 has yet to dominate Microsoft-powered machines, and the gap with Windows 10 is closing slowly.

According to StatCounter, Windows 11 accounts for 34.94% of the market share as of early December 2024. After several months of continuous growth, the latest version of the desktop OS has seen a slight decline of 0.64 points month-over-month, while Windows 10 has gained 0.64 points, reaching 61.83% market share. This means nearly two-thirds of Windows PCs worldwide are running on Windows 10, known for its remarkable stability.

It's important to note that support for Windows 10 will officially end on October 14, 2025. After this date, Microsoft will no longer release updates or security patches unless users opt for a paid program, which costs $30 per license per year for individuals and $61 for businesses in the first year, increasing to $244 in the third year. The end of support is expected to accelerate the migration away from Windows 10, but many users may continue to use an unsupported operating system for some time.
