The company Mega, owned by Mattel, no longer holds the exclusive rights to the Pokémon license. Danish giant Lego has announced the signing of a licensing agreement with The Pokémon Company.
Pikachu is set to be the star of the first series, as its electric tail appears in a teaser shared on social media. In a statement, Lego expressed that it is "excited to work with a brand like Pokémon," promising "builds" and "a world of new opportunities." The brand confirmed that it aims to "meet the expectations" of fans.
While the partnership with The Pokémon Company does not specify if the license becomes an exclusive for Lego, it is clear that this is a significant blow to American company Megablocks, which previously offered several creatures and items from this universe. The release of several sets, including Pikachu and Evoli, as well as Dracaufeu and Bulbizarre, is expected. There is currently no information on the "new opportunities" mentioned in the statement, but Lego may offer similar interactions as with Lego Mario, allowing play with characters and blocks that respond to movement.
