A large-scale outage has been affecting Russian telecommunications operators since Tuesday, January 14, according to the Russian media outlet Kommersant.
Since 5:10 PM Moscow time, internet services have been disrupted for Beeline, Megafon, and Tele-2, three of the country's most popular operators. Two additional operators have also been impacted, leading to numerous corporate and banking websites going offline. According to Failure.rf, platforms like TikTok, YouTube, Telegram, Twitch, and WhatsApp were also inaccessible, along with Google's browser. Some users reported difficulties in ordering taxis or rideshares through their apps.
Russian telecommunications regulator Roskomnadzor stated, "A short-term interruption in connectivity was detected. Network operations have been quickly restored by the emergency services of the Public Communications Network Monitoring and Control Center." The incident is currently being resolved, with Vedomosti reporting that the outage may have been caused by "issues with Roskomnadzor's technical means for threat mitigation and the Main Radio Frequency Center."
