Productivity enthusiasts will be thrilled! Like Slack and Microsoft Teams, Google Chat is set to introduce a new feature to enhance team collaboration: Huddles. Google has struggled to make its chat tool stand out, but this new addition could change that. The tech giant is currently rolling out the Huddles feature in Google Chat, enabling users to initiate brief calls using Google Meet, aimed at making teamwork smoother and more efficient.
Google has not yet exhausted its efforts with Google Chat. With voice messaging about to be integrated and access to the AI Gemini becoming more straightforward, the Mountain View company has announced the arrival of Huddles, a feature heavily inspired by competitors Slack and Microsoft Teams. Huddles allow for informal calls between colleagues by initiating a meeting (video or audio) directly within Chat.
To start a Huddle, users simply click on the upward arrow icon next to the call button located at the top right of the screen, available in group messages, direct messages, and Google Chat spaces. After selecting "Start a Huddle," a voice meeting will launch in the bottom right of the screen, with an easy option to switch to a video call. This feature is currently exclusive to Workspace users with specific paid subscriptions and will be gradually deployed, expected to be finished by December 20 for rapid release domains.
