Bluesky, a social network alternative to X built on open-source technologies, has achieved a significant milestone by attracting notable users, including former president Barack Obama. The confirmation of his account was made by Bluesky OOO Rose Wang, who responded to inquiries regarding the legitimacy of Obama's presence on the platform.
In his initial posts, Obama marked the 15th anniversary of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), emphasizing that it serves as a reminder that change is possible through collective efforts. With a large following on other social media platforms, he has 130.6 million followers on X and 55 million on Facebook.
The rise of Bluesky has come as many left-leaning users abandon X, especially after the 2024 U.S. elections, driven by dissatisfaction with Elon Musk's alignment with Trump’s political strategies. As a result, Bluesky has seen exponential growth, now boasting over 33 million users, with other notable politicians like Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez also joining the platform.
