The TikTok platform will be cut off in Albania "in the coming days," following the announcement of its ban made in December, the government announced on Thursday, March 6.
"The competent authorities, in cooperation with internet service providers and digital platforms, will take the necessary measures to enforce the decision in the coming days or within a week," said Albanian Minister of Education, Ogerta Manastirliu.
The ban was first announced by Prime Minister Edi Rama in December, shortly after the death of a 14-year-old student during a brawl near a school in Tirana, which occurred after a conflict on social media. The death of the teenager sparked a national debate among parents, psychologists, and educational institutions regarding the impact of social media on youth.
