An Italian media outlet, Il Foglio, released its first AI-generated edition on Tuesday, March 18. Titled Il Foglio AI, it is described as "the first daily newspaper in the world created entirely through artificial intelligence."
No human journalists contributed to this edition, which includes everything from headlines to captions and quotes. "We, the journalists, will limit ourselves to asking questions, and we will read all the answers in Foglio AI," they state in an article.
This four-page edition features an article on "all the nonsense from Donald Trump last month" and is part of a month-long journalistic experiment to assess AI's impact on the media's work. The newspaper will publish an AI-generated edition from Tuesday to Thursday, containing four pages, approximately 22 articles, and three editorial pieces. "At the end of this experiment we will tell you what questions we were forced to ask ourselves, not only from a journalistic standpoint, as we see day by day a newspaper entirely made with AI," they add.
