On April 13, HBO and Naughty Dog will release the first episode of season 2 of The Last Of Us, over two years after the premiere of the first season. During the SXSW event in Austin, Texas, the series team, including producers, actors, and the original soundtrack composer, held a panel discussion, providing the perfect opportunity to unveil the latest trailer.
After adapting the video game The Last Of Us Part I in season 1 in 2023, Neil Druckmann, co-president of Naughty Dog and creator of The Last Of Us franchise, along with Craig Mazin, director of the mini-series Chernobyl, are now preparing to adapt The Last Of Us Part II. This presents a more challenging task, as the second game features a much more complex structure.
While the storyline of the game fits well into a video game format, adapting it into a series proves to be more difficult. It's important to note that season 2 will cover only part of The Last Of Us Part II, rather than the entire game. Tune in on April 13 on HBO Max to catch the first episode of season 2, which will consist of seven episodes. A third season is already in pre-production and is expected to begin filming this summer, focusing on the latter part of The Last Of Us Part II, with the HBO series planning to offer a total of four seasons.
